If you’ve ever wanted to make your own book with a needle, thread and some paper, this is the class for you! This class covers two easy-to-sew stitches, the “4 needle stitch” and the “chain stitch”. We won’t just learn the basics of sewing these bindings together but we’ll learn to create a covering as well as an easy way to complete a star book! Mail Art is one of my favourite creative styles, combining travel, colour, adventure and catching up with friends, what could be better!

Mail Art has been around in different formats for a long time and making a comeback against the modern instant communication options that might be fast but sure are plain.

Like all my classes there are lots of techniques to learn and try. We are working on post card sized shapes so you can quickly build a creative collection. I am building my collection for a mantle display and as a bonus, there will be an extra colour on texture lesson each week. I will be practicing these combinations on stamped images of large maple leaves. A nice filler between the postcards and envelopes.

Week 1: Backgrounds

Let’s start at the beginning! I’ll show you how I fill in all of that white space! Secrets to choosing colors, inspiration from some of my favorite artists, different techniques to use and ways to make them work with our owls! plus a sneak peek at what the entire process will be like with photos and video of each step we’ll be making along the way!

Week 2: Owls

this week is all about painting owls! I’ll share with you the drawing template I use to create my own owl characters, breaking them down into simple lines and shapes, so you can easily create your own!

Week 3: Embellishments

This week we’ll focus on all of the little details and embellishments that say a lot! We’ll get inspiration for ways to express ourselves in our artwork and develop our own unique style. I’ll also share all of the tricks I’ve learned along the way too-what supplies work best together and how to really make your character and background pop!

Week 4: Scene

how to pull our owls and backgrounds together! I’ll show you how I go about creating scenes in my paintings. Then we’ll get out our scissors, papers, glitter, and mixed media supplies and I’ll share a few tips to get your imaginations going. This weeks tutorials will look at composition and ways stories reveal themselves in our art… sometimes without us even knowing!

Week 5: Review & Top Coats

This week I’ll have a few additional videos for you, showing the owl painting process from start to finish. I’ll also go into some of my favorite top coats and supplies.

These pendants were inspired by the poem “A Home Song” by Henry Van Dyke. I believe that every home has a song…each unique and special only to those that live within its walls. This private song carries its voice within these pendants and they float with memories of happiness and good times and love.

As an artist, I tried to capture my song in the objects that I embedded inside the resin…Sweetly remembering the sound of the beach and picking up shells…or the songs of the birds in the trees outside my bedroom window… even the soft hum coming from my mother as she planted her flowers and tended to them with gentle care.
